Alden-Conger shop students and local businesses have teamed up for a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Freeborn County.

The Humane Society is offering chances on a child’s backyard playhouse. The playhouse was constructed by students in Sam Hintz’s shop class. They included seniors Dan Opseth, Nick Wach and Evan Guenther. They were assisted by underclassmen Michael Bernal, Wes Thostenson and Seth Anderson.

Lumber was donated by Freeborn Lumber Co. and other materials were donated by The Home Depot.

The playhouse is on display at Raleigh’s Ace Hardware in Albert Lea. It was transported from Alden by Wayne’s Towing.

Teresa Halbach, treasurer of the Humane Society, said the Humane Society is grateful to all those who have donated to its building fund drive. An anonymous donor has offered the Humane Society a $150,000 grant for a shelter, but the organization needs to raise enough money to finish the project (about $150,000 more). The Humane Society is about two-thirds of the way there.

Halbach said the playhouse fundraiser is especially nice because it involves people from outside Albert Lea in the Humane Society.

Tickets for the playhouse fundraiser are $5 each or four for $15. There are entry forms in local businesses, including Ace Hardware. People can also download a form on the organization’s Web site, www.hsffc.org, by clicking on the fundraising link. Mail the forms and checks payable to the Humane Society of Freeborn County to P.O. Box 423, Albert Lea. The drawing will be held on June 30.
