Meet the Athlete: Sarah DeHaan

Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am a senior.
Q: What town do you live in, and which school do you attend?
A: I live in the country outside of Hollandale. I attend Albert Lea High School.
Q: Who is your immediate family?
A: My mom, Ruth; my dad, Greg; and my brothers Nathaniel, James and Jon.
Q: Which sports do you play?
A: Volleyball and track. I have also played softball and basketball.
Q: What is your favorite part of playing volleyball?
A: Friendships with my teammates and helping my team by getting a kill or block.
Q: What has playing volleyball taught you?
A: Volleyball has taught me persistence, hard work and to never give up.
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: Playing at the ESPN center and getting a medal at Nationals in Orlando.
Q: Which game are you looking forward to most this year?
A: Our rival, Austin.
Q: How did you get started in volleyball?
A: My friends Bethany and Alicia convinced me to join club.
Q: What sports did your family members play?
A: My dad played basketball, ran track, volleyball and softball. My mom ran cross country, track, basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis and hockey.
Q: What are your sports-related achievements?
A: This past club season my team got first at Presidents Day, Med City Cup, M1 tournament, Odd cup, JVA World challenge, and third at Nationals. I was All-Conference, honorable mention in volleyball and All-Conference in track.
Q: What are your sports-related goals?
A: I plan to play volleyball and do high jump in college.
Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?
A: Kerri Walsh Jennings.
Q: What are your college plans? Major?
A: I am thinking of attending Dordt for pre-optometry.
Q: What is your favorite school subject?
A: Calculus.
Q: Who is your favorite teacher?
A: Gentz, Haney, Wayne and Henrich.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Showing my dogs in 4H and reading.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: A professional dog trainer or optometrist.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: I don’t have one.
Q: What is an interesting fact about you?
A: I lived in Africa for 10 years.
