Milt Ost, author of the Tumbleweeds Burning book series, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Wells Public Library. He will discuss the story behind the historical novels and what inspired him to write.
The Tumbleweeds Burning books are an epic story about five generations of a family invited by the czar to move from Germany to Russia. When one of their sons is chosen to serve as Czar Alexander’s bodyguard, life is exciting and good. But soon the political climate changes and bitter persecutions force them to flee to America.
They settle in the Midwest, where they endure both immense hardship and deep joy. With strong faith and perseverance, they turn the Midwest prairies into one of the great breadbaskets of the world and enjoy their freedoms and American citizenship.
