Petersen strengthened relationships

I was asked recently why I am choosing to vote for Ken Petersen for school board. I believe he is exactly the person we need to help bring the focus back on our students and the amazing things happening in our schools.
Years ago when I was a reporter at the Albert Lea Tribune, I was asked by my editor to re-build relationships with the schools. Previously there had been a great deal of negativity that had festered and caused damage — especially with public perception.
Ken Petersen was very welcoming and took the time to educate me about the issues the schools were facing. I attended every meeting for several years as part of my regular beat — I appreciated Ken’s respectful and considerate treatment of others, even as difficult decisions had to be made.
Ken asked thoughtful questions and did his research. He focused on building good, working relationships; and encouraged people to give voice to their concerns.
These are all characteristics that we need, especially during this time of great change. We’ve been able to re-build and grow in the past — and we are capable of doing it again.
