Family bike safety event coming to Albert Lea

A free event will be held for children and adults to learn more about bike safety Saturday at 9 a.m. at Southwest Middle School.

The event will feature bike safety instructions, rules of the road and bike handling skills. Free bike helmets, helmet fittings and bike inspections will be available, too.

• See the “East Meets West I-90 Art Connection” show at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library’s book sale is open from noon to 6 p.m. west of the lower level of City Hall in the City Center Garage off Fountain Street.

• The Sons of Norway will hold a Syttende Mai Banquet celebrating Norwegian Independence Day with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. A program featuring Byron Statsvold’s “Trip to Norway to Find Your Roots” will follow the dinner. For reservations call 377-8162. Tickets are $12.

• Albert Lea High School will feature an orchestra concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market starts at 9 a.m. and goes until noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.

• Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library’s book sale is open from 9 a.m. to noon west of the lower level of City Hall in the City Center Garage off Fountain Street.

• The Family Bike Safety Rodeo will start at 9 a.m. at Southwest Middle School in the parking lot. The event is free.

• Bergdale Harley-Davidson is holding an anniversary bash from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bad Monkey and other local music performers will be performing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• The Sample Saturday Series will feature free Zumba at the Albert Lea Family Y starting at 2 p.m.

• A spaghetti benefit supper and silent auction will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Armory in Albert Lea to benefit Beth Sackson and Kris Schewe, who lost their home in a fire in April. With questions or to donate call Holly at 507-391-4557.

Sunday

• The Montessori Children’s House of Albert Lea will hold its annual spring breakfast benefit from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Skyline Plaza. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, potatoes, eggs, coffee, milk and juice. Cost is $6 for adults and $5 for children under age 6.

• The Sons of Norway Lodge will hold a pannakaker breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes pannakaker (rolled pancakes), eggs, parsley potatoes, ham, juice and coffee. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

• American Legion Leo Carey Post 56 will hold a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, fruit, juice and coffee. Suggested donation is $7 for adults and free for children.

• The Land Between the Lakes Triathlon will start at 9 a.m. at the Edgewater Park West entrance. The race begins with a one fourth-mile swim in Fountain Lake, then a 20 1/2-mile bike ride and end with a 3 1/2-mile run alone Edgewater Park and Fountain Lake. The race is limited to 300 entrants.

• First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea will host a Hymn Works II concert at 7 p.m.
