Mark Grossklaus is the principal of Albert Lea High School.
Over the past two years, the Albert Lea High School staff has been working on creating a “top 20” high school. We offered an evening session last fall for parents and have had a number of student leaders attend training on top 20 through the Big Nine Conference and the Minnesota State High School League.
This fall we brought what we learned to our students. You might hear your student say “being above the line,” “keep your day,” “OPO — other people’s opinion,” “the frame,” “confusion rocks” and “not afraid to fail.” More information on what these mean can be found at top20training.com/training-seminars/top-20-topics.
These are all concepts teachers have been working with students on. Our goal is to help students have a better experience in school among their peers and staff in order to create a positive culture at Albert Lea High School, and to also set a tone of positive relationships and use a language that can be understood by all students and staff.
You will hear more about top 20 from your student and will see more about top 20 when visiting Albert Lea High School. Ask your student what an “invitation” is.
