A.L. returns 9 wrestlers

50 years ago: 1966
• Head wrestling coach Paul Ehrhard of Albert Lea High School greeted nine returning letter winners at the start of practice. Heading the list of returning letter winners were Mark Allen, who won the 103 pounds title at the Minnesota state wrestling tournament and finished the 1965 season with a 21-0-2 record and Chuck Jean who won the consolation title and recorded a 21-2 mark. The remaining letter winners were Chuck Nelson, Mark Hunt, Roger Klukow, Bill Fynbo, Mike Malepsy, Tim Donahue and John Demo.
• The ALHS hockey team returned six letter winners from the 1965 season for coach Les Etienne. They were Tim Paske, Doyle Freemyer, Steve Sydnes, Ron Nielson, Gary Barb and John Morley.
• Named to the North Iowa All-Conference Football Team from Lake Mills High School were Steve Pederson, Darrel Engebretson and Bob Harang.
25 years ago: 1991
• The Apple Valley volleyball team shut out ALHS 3-0 by scores of 15-6, 15-5 and 15-6 in the semi final round of Section 1AA.
• United South Central defeated Cedar Mountain 3-1 by scores of 15-8, 6-15, 15-12 and 17-15 in the semi-final round of Section 2A. Jane Passer had 27 kills and Becca Schulte was 19 for 19 serving. In the finals of Section 2A Martin County West defeated USC 3-1. USC finished the season with a record of 20-4-1.
• The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers 35-21. Quarterback Rich Gannon of the Vikes threw three touchdown passes and ran for one more.
10 years ago: 2006
• Named to the All-Big Nine Conference Football Team from ALHS were R. J. Polley and Taylor Ignaszewski. Receiving Honorable Mention were Corey Dieser and Matt Morris.
• The ALHS girls’ hockey team defeated Rochester Century 7-0 and recorded 70 shots on goal. Jenna Christensen scored four goals, and Madi Passingham, Amy Gackstetter and Jacqui Jepson scored one goal each.
