The NRHEG boys’ basketball team enjoyed a successful campaign in 2015-16, a season that saw the school win 17 games. The Panthers played their first game of the season Tuesday night against St. Clair.
And they got off to a good start.
NRHEG used a seven-point halftime lead to its advantage, despite St. Clair coming back to tie the game with 10 minutes left in the game.
NRHEG would eventually take control of the game in the final 10 minutes to win.
“I told the boys ‘this was solid start to our season,’” NRHEG coach Pat Churchill said. “This game is something we can build off of, but we still have a long way to go. One thing I was impressed with was we only turned the over six times.”
St. Clair jumped out to an early 9-2 lead, but stemmed the tide the rest of the game led by 20 points and seven rebounds from Taylor Raimann. Raimann scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half to help the Panthers to the halftime lead. NRHEG also got 14 points and eight rebounds from Oakley Baker.
NRHEG will have a week to clean up some things before it hosts Medford on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
