Another round of winter weather is on its way this weekend as the area battles chilling temperatures.
A band of snow is expected to move into southwest Minnesota this evening and into eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin tonight. This will produce less than an inch of snow and will likely impact the commute Friday morning in the Twin Cities, according to the National Weather Service.
Albert Lea is under a winter storm watch with heavy snowfall expected to begin Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday morning.
Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible, according to the Weather Service, with a possibility for 1 to 3 inches during the day Friday and 2 to 4 inches overnight. Less than one inch of new snow is expected Saturday.
On Saturday, wind gusts as high as 30 mph could cause patchy blowing and drifting snow after 9 a.m. with the temperature falling to around 4 degrees below zero by 5 p.m.
People should plan on reduced visibility and difficult driving conditions — especially for the evening commute Friday.
Dangerously cold wind chill values between 25 and 40 degrees below zero are expected Saturday night through Sunday morning.
