George was born May 19, 1943, in Albert Lea, to Herbert and Vivian Warner. He was raised in Albert Lea and graduated from high school in 1963. He joined the United States Navy when he was 20. He was stationed in Spain and worked as a fireman for aircraft. He was also stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, and Puerto Rico. After four years of service to our country, he returned to Albert Lea.
On Jan. 16, 1977, George married Janet Kay Newman from Mason City, Iowa. They made their home in Albert Lea, where George worked at Wilson & Co. for 28 years. He also worked for Hormel in Austin for four years.
George enjoyed visiting with friends and playing cribbage, solitaire and other card games. When he was able, he loved to keep his lawn manicured like a golf course. He also enjoyed coaching little league and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. And he loved his mohawk!
He is survived by his brother, Steve (Elaine) Warner of Albert Lea; sister, Mary (Robert) Sorenson of St. Paul; stepsons Ted Herman, John Herman and Jay Wessels; several other relatives; and all of his St. John’s friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; and brother, Jim Warner.
Blessed be his memory.
