District 3 Commissioner Jim Nelson will again lead the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners in 2017.
The commissioners on Tuesday re-elected Nelson as chairman and elected District 4 Commissioner Chris Shoff as vice chairman.
As chairman, Nelson will continue to work closely with Freeborn County Administrator John Kluever.
“It’s a good responsibility to have,” Nelson said. “The board has faith in me.”
Nelson expects a transportation funding shortage to continue, and he wants to continue to work with the Shell Rock River Watershed District.
“I have no one specific thing, because things can change from day to day,” he said.
Nelson stressed he wants to continue to listen to constituents.
“Just relate with people like you do in daily life, because I am no better than anyone else … just relate to them like you are talking to them normally,” he said.
Nelson began his term as commissioner in November 2004.
Nelson and Shoff will serve on numerous committees this year.
Shoff, who has served as chairman for three years during his tenure, also serves on the National Association of Counties and Association of Minnesota Counties Board of Directors.
“Wonderful that the board members have been impressed in my leadership,” he said.
In other action, the board:
Set board meeting times for the first and third Tuesdays of each month, with the exception of July 11 and Dec. 12.
Appointed the official Freeborn County newspaper as the Albert Lea Tribune for publications of the delinquent tax list and informing potential bidders that transportation projects might be on the Freeborn County website.
