50 years ago: 1967

• The Alden High School basketball team won its sixth straight game with a 83-78 win over Frost. Al Lindeman scored 32 points for the Blackhawks. Frost was led by Jeff Loge with 30 points and 27 rebounds.

• Dan Doty scored 18 points and had 16 rebounds and Darrel Gavle had 16 points for the Albert Lea High School basketball team in its 65-56 victory over the Austin Packers.

• Chuck Jean recorded his sixth straight win by a pin after beating the Austin heavy weight in ALHS’ 32-11 wrestling win over Austin.

25 years ago: 1992

• Pam Stoltz, a 1991 graduate of ALHS and a freshman at Kansas State University, recorded her first double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds against the Indiana Hoosiers.

• The ALHS boys’ basketball team raised its Big Nine Conference record to 3-1 and 5-3 overall after defeating Owatonna 65-58. The Tigers were led by Chris Boysen with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Lee Kuiters 16 points and Paul Kenis 12 points.

• In their second game of the week the Tigers defeated Austin 70-64. Steve Brigger scored 18 points, Chris Shoff 17 and Chris Boysen 16 for the Tigers.

• Bill Deyak scored the winning goal in overtime in the ALHS hockey team’s 4-3 win over Rochester John Marshall. Also scoring goals for the Tigers were Matt Nechanicky, Brandon Hanson and Mitch Tharaldson.

10 years ago: 2007

• The Alden-Conger boys’ basketball team improved to 5-0 with a 61-22 win over Nicollet. Sam Hallman scored 11 points for the Knights.

• The ALHS boys’ hockey team evened its Big Nine Conference record at 3-3 after defeating Winona 8-1. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Mark Walton (2), Jarad Bowman (2), Logan Ferrie, Casey Woodside, Lucas Hanson and Alex Stadheim.

• The No. 3 ranked ALHS girls’ basketball team in Class 3A defeated Winona 56-44. Ali Demmer scored 20 points and Hali Hendrickson 17 for the Tigers. Albert Lea had a 4-2 Big Nine Conference record and a 9-2 season mark.

• Cody Hanson scored 13 points and Ban Bestul 10 for Northwood-Kensett in its 49-25 win against Rockwell-Swaledale.
