The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team was locked in a battle with Fairmont on Saturday.
Down 2-1 late in the third period and not having much go their way this season, the Tigers desperately needed something to go their way.
Hailey Adams answered the bell.
Adams’ goal with 30 seconds remaining in the game even the score and forced overtime.
However, it was short-lived.
The Cardinals scored 4:41 into the overtime period when Mackenzie Householder beat Albert Lea goaltender Maddie Schneider to win the game, 3-2.
Albert Lea struck first in the first period when Rylee Bjorklund scored 1:41 into the contest.
It didn’t take long for Fairmont to even the score. Six minutes later, Joni Becker knotted the game at 1-1.
Fairmont’s Courtney Williams would give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead with a goal in the third period, but then Adams tied it before time expired.
Albert Lea dropped to 3-13 on the year, but has seemed to solve its scoring issues.
The Tigers are averaging 2.75 goals over their last four games, and 2.85 goals over their last seven.
Albert Lea will be in Winona on Thursday.
