The United South Central baseball team continues to find creative ways to score.

After losing a three-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday, the Rebels walked four times in the top of the eighth and won 4-3 at the Waseca Bluejays.

“We competed hard,” Rebels coach Pat Frank said. “It was a big win for us to start rolling into the playoffs.”

The Rebels scored three runs in the fourth, and pitcher Dustin Dylla allowed one hit through six innings before the Bluejays’ offense woke up in the seventh.

After striking out the first batter, Dylla gave up a hit but got the next batter to ground out into a fielder’s choice at second base. With two outs and a runner on first base, Dylla walked a batter and gave up two consecutive hits for three runs. The Bluejays’ final batter struck out.

Patience paid off in the eighth, though.

With one out, three straight Rebels batters walked to load the bases before a flyout made the second out. Eric Lackey then walked in the game-winning run, and Dustin Dylla threw a perfect 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth inning.

“He threw a nice ballgame tonight,” Frank said, of Dylla. “He threw three curveballs the whole game. He spotted his fastball nicely and did a good job.”

The Rebels play again May 26 in the Section 2A tournament against the winner of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva and Alden-Conger.
