Online users don’t have to give names

Why is it that your newspaper will allow people to post on your Web site using IDs rather then their real names? Would you publish a letter to the editor that was not signed? Many of these posts seem to be ill-informed and feed on basic negativity. Is that what the Albert Lea Tribune is promoting? It is very easy for people to sit at their computers and be armchair quarterbacks in life when they have anonymity. Would they say the same things if you required them to use their real names? How sad that this is what our society has become and that your publication is promoting it. What happened to basic courtesy and compassion?
