50 years ago: 1967

• The Albert Lea High School gymnastic team defeated Mankato 64.5 to 40.5. Placing first for the Tigers were Dan Gasca on the high bars, Dave Medd on the parallel bars and John Lageson on the rings.

• The Glenville High School basketball team raised its Southland Conference record to 2-4 after defeating Lyle 72-68. Larry Perleberg led the Trojans with 19 points and 31 rebounds.

• Ron Peterson had a big night for the Alden Blackhawks with 30 points and 31 rebounds in the 94-64 victory over Emmons.

• The ALHS basketball team defeated the Big Nine Conference-leading Northfield, 64-51. The Tigers were led by Darrel Gavle with 21 points and Dan Doty with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

25 years ago: 1992

• The ALHS boys’ swimming team defeated Rochester John Marshall 110-70. Erik Hendrickson placed first in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 yard freestyle.

• Steve Brigger scored 29 points and Chris Boysen 21 to lead the ALHS basketball team to a 82-79 win over Mankato West. The Tigers improved to 5-1 in the Big Nine Conference. 

• Freshman Kris Johannsen scored 32 points to lead the Alden-Conger basketball team to a 85-69 victory over Glenville-Emmons. Chris Sorensen scored 26 points and Emil Thunstedt 16 for the Knights. Brian Cipra led all scoring with 35 points for the Wolverines.

• Chuck Stevens scored two goals and Bill Deyak, Brandon Thomas and Reid Olson one each for the ALHS hockey team in its 5-4 win over Faribault.

10 years ago: 2007

• The NRHEG girls’ basketball team remained undefeated at 6-0 in the Gopher Conference after defeating United South Central 63-51. Alyssa Hagen scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds and Jasmine Brouwers added 19 points for the Panthers.

• The ALHS girls’ basketball team defeated Austin 70-43 behind 19 points for sisters Niki and Hali Hendrickson each. The season record improved to 10-3 and their Big Nine mark was 5-3.

• Mark Walton scored two goals for the ALHS boys’ hockey team in its 5-1 win against Mankato West. The Tigers season record improved to 10-5.
