Several schools are canceled as the area remains under a winter weather advisory.

Classes in Albert Lea Area Schools, Lake Mills Community School District and Northwood-Kensett Community School District are canceled.

A wintry mix of precipitation is expected today and tonight into Tuesday from south central Minnesota into east central Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

According to the National Weather Service, the potential exists for up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation with up to 3 inches of snow possible.

The highest ice accumulations are expected near Albert Lea, with the highest snow accumulations expected from Eau Claire to Menomonie.

This will lead to slippery travel conditions, and motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.

The winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
