Wallace Walter Berntson, 88, entered eternal life on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at his home.
Wallace Berntson was born on April 29, 1928, to Walter and Gladys (Lundstrum) Berntson in Albert Lea, where he grew up and worked at the Wilson & Co. truck garage before he met and married Maxine Evans in 1950.
Wally was then drafted into the Army and upon discharge he and Maxine moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Both Wally and Maxine secured positions at Ft. Carson and retired from civil service in 1980. Over the years they designed and built several homes. For a great escape they enjoyed taking their pickup truck and camper deep into the mountains. Upon finding a campsite, they would load up their backpacks and hike to a fishing spot and return to camp for the night. Wally also enjoyed tinkering in his garage where he restored many old vehicles.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joann Means; and wife, Maxine.
A viewing will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11 a.m. at Village at Skyline, 2365 Patriot Heights, Colorado Springs. To sign the guestbook, go to www.memorialgardensfuneralhome.com.
