Evans’ hat trick helps Tigers dispose of Packers

Five goals in the second period was all the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team needed to cruise past Austin 9-2 on Saturday, a day the town of Albert Lea celebrated the sport of hockey.

Five players scored goals for the Tigers, including four in the second period, and Mitchell Evans and Austin Dulitz each had a hat tricks for Albert Lea who won for the second time in games.

Sam Chalmers led the Tigers with four assists.

After Austin took the lead on a short-handed goal scored by Kory Potach, Albert Lea responded with eight unanswered goals, including four power play goals.

The nine goals scored by Albert Lea is tied for the second-highest goal total by the Tigers this season. They scored 12 goals against Winona and nine goals against Faribault.

Albert Lea moves to 7-9 on the season and will host Red Wing on Tuesday. The Tigers will be looking to avenge a 5-4 loss to the Wingers on Jan. 12.
