Letter: Vogt-Erickson has always researched info. in columns

It has come to our attention that Jennifer Vogt-Erickson has been banned from submitting to the column “My Point of View” because some of the readers who disagree with her point of view are threatening to drop their subscriptions. It sounds much like our president who is telling the media to fire certain reporters that have reported the real facts instead of the alternative facts that he wants people to think. I am so disappointed and discouraged that this ignoring of the U.S. Constitution is now happening with our local newspaper. My husband, John, and I have been so impressed with Jennifer’s columns over the years and often share them with our friends and family via mail and Facebook. The educator that she is, she has always researched her remarks and often shares the history of specific issues. I can understand why people who don’t agree with her are threatened by her facts. That does not justify not allowing her to write and share her column (which she doesn’t get paid to do). There are others who write in the paper who we don’t agree with, so be it! That is or has been the right and joy of living in the United States. Over the years we have found ourselves encouraging others to take out a subscription to the Albert Lea Tribune. Please reinstate Jennifer Vogt-Erickson as a contributor to the My Point of View column.
