50 years ago: 1967

• Bricelyn High School handed the Alden basketball team its first loss of the year in the Border League 75-74. The Braves were led by Glen Oelerking with 20 points and Erwin Flo with 19. Al Lindeman scored 20 points for Alden. 

• In another Border League game, Freeborn defeated Delavan 50-42. John Miller led the Yeomen with 17 points. Gary Treptow took scoring honors with 19 points for Delavan.

• Darrel Gavle scored 20 points and Larry Louters 18 for the Albert Lea High School basketball team in its 77-64 victory over Owatonna.

• The Lake Mills High School basketball team defeated Osage 73-56. Roger Bang and Steve Pederson each scored 20 points for the Bulldogs.

25 years ago: 1992

• The ALHS boys’ basketball team defeated Winona 50-27 and raised its season record to 10-6 and its Big Nine Conference mark to 7-3. Chris Boysen scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds and Steve Brigger also scored 13 points.

• The ALHS boys’ swimmimg team placed second with 286 points to first-place Winona with 301 points in the Big Nine Conference meet. Freshman Nate Olson won the 50-yard freestyle for the Tigers.

• The ALHS boys’ hockey team evened its season record to 8-8 after defeating Rochester Lourdes 8-3. Mitch Tharaldson scored three goals for the Tigers.   

10 years ago: 2007

• Balanced scoring led the ALHS girls’ basketball team to a 60-56 win over Owatonna. The Tigers were led by Niki Hendrickson with 16 points, Hali Hendrickson with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Ali Demmer and Liz Thompson with 10 points each. The Tigers Big Nine Conference record improved to 9-3.

• The ALHS girls’ hockey team defeated Winona 3-1. Jenny Christensen scored two goals and Katie Nelson one goal for the Tigers.

• The Northwood-Kensett boys’ basketball team, ranked No. 5 in its class in Iowa, defeated Riceville 61-43. The Vikings were led by Cody Hanson with 19 points, Jake Weisert with 11 and Dan Bestul with 10.

• Ashley Lau scored 17 points for Glenville-Emmons in its 55-40 victory over Lyle-Pacelli.
