50 years ago: 1967

• Center Dan Doty of the Albert Lea High School basketball team hit a last-second field goal to provide a 66-64 victory over Red Wing. Doty and Darrel Gavle each scored 14 points and Larry Louters added 13 points for the Tigers.

• The ALHS hockey team was victorious in two games played in one day. The Tigers defeated Elk River in the first game 5-3 with Tim Paske scoring two goals. Also scoring for the Tigers were Doyle Freemyer, Gary Barb and Bruce Kratzke. The Tigers defeated St. Thomas Academy 3-2 in the second game behind goals by Freemyer, Gary Hillman and Steve Sydnes.

• Albert Lea Golden Glove winners in the South Central section were Dick Sickles at 132 pounds, Jack Weitzel in the junior. welterweight division and Frank Jiminez at light heavyweight.

25 years ago: 1992

• In a Gopher Conference wrestling match, Glenville-Emmons defeated Triton 58-12. Winners for the Wolverines were Darin Madson at 103 pounds, Matt Williamson at 112 pounds, Jeremy Lair 119 pounds, Jeremy Knutson 125 pounds, Adam Johnson 130 pounds, Justin Senne 135 pounds, Tim Westrum 140 pounds, Justin Studier 145 pounds, Jeremy Nelson 152 pounds, Dern Olson 160 pounds and Adam Schmidt 171 pounds.

• Scott Ellertson of Albert Lea won the Miller Lite Superior Ski Classic in the 42K Freestyle. 

• The Northwood-Kensett girls’ basketball team defeated Belmond-Klemme 59-49. The Vikings were led by Punky Kraft with 26 points and Leah Fallgatter with 23. 

•The N-K boys were also winners over B-K by a score of 56-54. Brian Schutz scored 22 points and Jayson Newman 18 for the Vikings.

10 years ago: 2007

• The ALHS boys’ hockey team defeated Marshall in overtime 4-3. Blake Adams, Casey Woodside, Adam Royce and Chris Dokken scored goals for the Tigers.

• Meagan Miller scored 13 points to lead the Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team to a 44-33 win against Madelia.

• Justin Stieglbauer and Brad Kruckeberg each scored 17 points to lead NRHEG to a 57-43 win over United South Central. Chris Yost scored 16 points and Jake Sonnek 12 for USC.
