Two days after cruising to win a over Winona, the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team traveled to Rochester to take on John Marshall on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers scored eight goals in Saturday’s win, but the offense was far from explosive Tuesday. The Tigers struck first, but that would be all they would get as they fell to the Rockets in overtime, 2-1.
The game was scoreless after the first period. But just over three minutes into the second period, Alex Goodmanson snuck a shot past goalie John Paul Newman to give the Tigers the early edge.
Albert Lea goalie Ben Witham did all he could to keep John Marshall off the scoreboard, stopping 21 shots through the first two periods.
Nearly four minutes into the third period, though, the Rockets’ Zander Lamppa lit the lamp to tie the game.
The game would head to overtime where the Rockets would win the game thanks to Nick Hackman’s goal 7:50 into the period.
Witham stopped 43 of 45 shots in the loss, as the Tigers fell to 10-12-1 on the season.
Goodmanson scored his sixth goal of the season for the Tigers.
As the regular season winds down, Albert Lea has two games left.
It will host Faribault on Thursday.
