50 years ago: 1967

• Twenty points and 18 rebounds by Dan Doty and 15 points and 16 rebounds by Darrel Gavle led the way for the Albert Lea High School basketball team in its 76-67 defeat of Faribault.

• The Lake Mills basketball team defeated Belmond 81-71. The Bulldogs were led by Roger Bang with 23 points, Tom Westendorf with 18 and Steve Pederson with 17.

• In Border League basketball, Freeborn High School defeated Kiester 64-58. The Yeomen were led by John Miller with 21 points and Gary Young with 15. Ron Penning scored 29 points and Wayne Steven had 15.

• Alden defeated Emmons 82-63 in the Border League. Gary Schewe of Emmons led scorers with 35 points in a losing cause. The Blackhawks were led by Glen Mathiason with 23 points, Ron Peterson with 19 and Al Lindeman with 18.

25 years ago: 1992

• The ALHS boys’ swimming team placed second in Section 1. Moving on to the Minnesota state swimming meet for the Tigers were freshman Nate Olson in the 50-yard and 100 freestyle, Nate Saul in the 100 backstroke and Jay Jerdee in the 50 freestyle.

• The ALHS wrestling team improved its Big Nine Conference record to 5-3 and its season record to 12-6 after defeating Winona 38-22. Winners for the Tigers were Corney Vallejo at 119 pounds, Travis Wasmoen 125 pounds, Albert Savala 130 pounds, Nate Skaar 135 pounds, Craig Nelson 140 pounds, Dave Mendenhall 160 pounds and Mark Bell heavyweight.

• The ALHS girls’ basketball team defeated Bethlehem Academy 59-41. Amy Beese scored 18 points and Mollee Ludtke scored 11 points and had 12 rebounds.

10 years ago: 2007

• Alden-Conger defeated Glenville-Emmons 52-43. Nadean Krueger scored 14 points for the Knights and Ashley Lau led the Wolverines with 22 points.

• The ALHS girls’ basketball team defeated Winona 58-47 with Niki Hendrickson scoring 14 points, Ali Demmer 13 and Liz Thompson 12 for Albert Lea. The Tigers’ record improved to 11-4 in the Big Nine Conference and 16-6 overall.

• Megan Pederson scored 26 points to lead the Lake Mills girls’ basketball team to a 53-45 win over Estherville.
