The public is invited to join the Albert Lea High School choirs celebrate the power of music in students’ lives at their concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the Albert Lea High School auditorium.
The concert will feature the celebr8 choir, Tiger choir, varsity choir and concert choir. The choirs are directed by Diane Heaney and Mary Bissen and accompanied by Bob Tewes.
Tickets for the concert are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available at the door. Music family concert passes are also good for this concert.
According to a press release, this concert is a special concert since the choirs are celebrating the leap into March which has been designated as Music in Our Schools Month by the National Association for Music Education. This year’s theme is “Music Inspires.” Students will perform all styles of music and demonstrate things they have learned in class throughout the concert.
Students involved with music in Albert Lea are highly involved in many other school activities including sports, mock trial, drama, robotics, National Honor Society and numerous other clubs and organizations.
About 50 members of the choirs participated in the solo and ensemble contest on Jan. 21 at Lakeville High School. The celebr8 and Tiger choir students recently went to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre to see a professional production of Camelot. The varsity choir will go to the Ordway to see a production from Minnesota Opera, and 40 members of the concert choir will depart for their choral tour to Nashville and Memphis on March 10.
The ALHS concert choir was recently awarded a state-wide honor which will be announced at the concert.
According to a press release, choir students’ names can often be found on honor roll lists for every school term and they serve as positive community role models and ambassadors for Albert Lea wherever they perform.
