Delores Bennett, 1927-2017

Funeral services for Delores “Dee” Bennett will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Lakewood Cemetery following the service.

Dee passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community in Albert Lea. She was 89.

Delores was born on Dec. 7, 1927, in Faribault County to Jule and Rose (Schroeder) Hendrickson. She was baptized and confirmed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. She grew up in Wells and graduated from Wells High School in 1946 as well as Mankato Business College the following year. Dee worked at Wilson & Co.’s business office where she met her husband, Ellsworth. Dee worked at U.S. Bank as the head bookkeeper for 20 years in Albert Lea. She lived in many places, including Wells, Jackson, Livermore, Iowa, and Albert Lea. On April 18, 1953, she was united in marriage to Ellsworth Bennett.

Dee was very crafty and enjoyed decorating for First Lutheran Church, as well as for her family and friends. She liked to volunteer at places like the church counting committee and serving as circle president and secretary. She enjoyed many trips to Branson, Missouri, and senior citizen bus trips all over the United States. Dee was a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. Dee especially loved having family get-togethers at her home. She dearly loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so thankful for their love. Dee also was grateful for her friend, Sherry Possehl, for all of her help over the years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth; both parents; sister, Bea Voigt; brothers Roger and David Hendrickson; brothers in-law Harry, Walt, and Merrill Bennett, Donald Schulz, Vern Kelly and Hilbert Voigt; sisters in-law Phyllis Bennett, Deloris Kelly, Mary Bennett and Dorothy Bennett; a niece, Juli Voigt; and nephews Randy Voigt and Kent Schulz.

Survivors include her sons Jeff (Traci) Bennett and their children, Heather, Cody, Kayla and Mark (Lou) Bennett and his children, Justin and Matt (special friend, Amber Freese); great-grandchildren Avah Bennett, Emily Johnson, Honey Bennett, Ben Johnson and Alexis Bennett; sister, Myrna Schulz; sisters in-law Kathy Bennett, Wilma Ditlevson and Lorraine Browman; special nieces Kathy Schulz and Jackie Flanders; as well as many loving extended relatives and friends.
