The United South Central softball team got a strong start from pitcher Lizzy Baird and the Rebels’ offense came alive in an 11-1 win over Medford on Tuesday afternoon.

“This was a huge game for us,” Rebels coach Paul Meyer said. “(Medford) beat us 14-1 earlier in the season, so this is a big turnaround.”

Eight different USC players had at least one RBI and Baird pitched a complete game, despite going into a lot of deep counts with opposing hitters.

“Lizzy did a great job of battling,” Meyer said. “She had a lot of deep counts, but didn’t walk many.”

Baird allowed three walks over seven innings.

But the key to game was the offense. USC scored 11 runs and pounded out 20 hits.

“Even our outs were hit hard,” Meyer said. “We have worked very hard at being aggressive at the plate and it is starting to show on the scoreboard.”

The win helps USC move to 3-9 on the season.

It will play Bethlehem Academy on Thursday.
