50 years ago: 1967

• The Freeborn High School baseball team improved to 4-1 in the Border League with an 8-5 victory over Alden. John Miller picked up the win and Brian Schultz hit a three-run homer.

• In slow-pitch softball games Clayt’s North Star defeated Aragon No. 2 11-5 and the Aragon No. 1 team defeated COPI 12-10. Clayt Hatleli had four hits in four at-bats and Dick Godtland tripled for Clayt’s North Star. Bob Sasser led the Aragon No. 1 team to the victory.

• The Albert Lea High School track team scored 55 points and finished third in a meet with winner West Waterloo with 82 points and second-place finisher Mason City with 62 points. Craig Pederson set a school-record in the 100-yard dash and Laurence Louters won the 880-yard run for the Tigers.

25 years ago: 1992

• The ALHS boys’ golf team defeated Owatonna 301-322. Scores for the Tigers were Phil Schmidt (74), medalist, Todd Intehar (75) and Chris Baas and Chris Boysen (76) each.

• Pitcher Mike Piechoski remained perfect at 4-0 for the ALHS baseball team in its 6-4 win over Rochester John Marshall. The Tigers Big Nine Conference improved to 9-4 and their season record was 11-5.

• In a triangular girls’ golf meet, ALHS placed first with 192 to second place Owatonna with 194 and third place Austin with 212. Scores for the Tigers were Jodi Mack and Tracie Emerson both with (46), Donna Boom (49) and Lisa Rocklin (51).

• The Glenville-Emmons boys’ golf team defeated NRHEG 189-193. Andy Belshan and Chad Mickelson were co-medalists for the Wolverines with (40) strokes.

10 years ago: 2007

• The ALHS boys’ tennis team defeated Faribault 4-3. Winners for the Tigers were Corey Dieser at No. 1 singles, Josh Svendsen and Mike Bosma at No. 1 doubles, Levi Peterson and Matt Stoneking at No. 2 doubles and Evan Nolander and Scott Johnson at No. 3 doubles.

• Jared Gavlie knocked in the winning run in the eighth inning for the ALHS baseball team in its 8-7 win over Mankato East. Gavlie and Casey Woodside each had three hits for the Tigers.
