Fountain Lake Park hosting weekly concerts this summer

A new concert series will bring more than a dozen music acts this summer to Fountain Lake Park.
Thursdays on Fountain will begin this week with a performance by Brother Sun Sister Moon from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Recreation Director Bob Furland described the band as performing rocking, blues-type music.
Furland said the series will be a good community event.
“It will be downtown, and we love to have people come downtown to any of our parks, but Fountain Lake Park was kind of made for this kind of event,” he said. “It’s going to be a great atmosphere for you to come see your neighbors, friends, and hopefully meet some new people.”
Most performances will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Furland said, but a couple will last longer. Canoes and kayaks provided by Albert Lea Community Education will be available during June 15 and Aug. 17 performances.
“That’s pretty cool,” Furland said.
Thursdays on Fountain comes after the Music in the Park series last summer in Fountain Lake Park. Furland said Susie Petersen, executive director of the Albert Lea Convention & Visitors Bureau, approached him with the idea, and secured grants from Explore Minnesota and Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
More than 50 percent of performers will be local acts, Furland said.
“We have well-rounded entertainment, so it should be good for everybody,” he said.
