The Albert Lea girls’ golf team wrapped up the Big Nine Conference tournament in Red Wing on Tuesday.

The Tigers finished in sixth place and came in sixth in the conference for the season.

As play becomes more meaningful this time of year, Albert Lea rose to the occasion and shot a season-best 366.

Natalie Nafzger led the Tigers with her best score of the year (85) and took 11th place out of 72 golfers. She took home All-Conference honors, too. Emma Loch shot 91 and also was named to the All-Conference team for her season scoring average.

Maddy Carstens and Lexie Simon each shot a 95 to round out the scores for Albert Lea.

Red Wing, the defending state champions, ran away with the Big Nine Conference title.

While Albert Lea’s play has been on the up and up, putting together two consecutive solid nine-hole performances has been tricky for the Tigers.

“The girls were still showing some frustration with their play,” Tigers coach Shawn Riebe said. “They are struggling to put together two solid nine-hole rounds. If we can put that together with four players in a golf meet, we will be tough to beat at sections.”

Albert Lea will compete at sections on Friday in New Prague.
