Wells to host annual Kernel Days celebration

WELLS — The community of Wells will start gearing up for its annual Kernel Days celebration.
The Wells Library Foundation will host its salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wells American Legion. The Little Miss Kernel Days pageant will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium at United South Central High School.
The list of activities pick up on Friday.
The Wells Depot Museum will open from 1 to 4 p.m. A free lunch including root beer floats will be provided by Wells Federal Bank and Bevcomm. The lunch will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the bank’s parking lot. The Lions Club will host 55+ bingo at Broadway Apartments and the annual Alumni baseball game will be at 5:30 p.m. at Thompson Park.
Half Moon will host a variety of activities on both Friday and Saturday. The action starts at 5 p.m. Friday when Lions Bingo, food stands, beer garden, giant inflatables, a petting zoo and Kids Zone activity tent open. A fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m.
The giant inflatables, sand volleyball tournament, Kid Zone activity tent and a number of other events will continue at Half Moon Park throughout Saturday.
Downtown Wells will host the Maple Valley Classic Car Show which will conclude with a classic car cruise at 3:30 p.m. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the swimming pool will be open for no charge from 1:30 to 5 p.m. The annual Kernel Days parade will begin at 5 p.m. on South Broadway. Wells resident Lea Nowak has been chosen as this year’s grand marshal.
Activities will wind down on Sunday. The softball tournament that begins at 8 a.m. Saturday will continue at 8 a.m. at Half Moon Park. The Lions Club Golf Tournament will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Wells Golf Course and there will be a worship service at the park at 10 a.m.
