Despite a slow start, the Tigers had a stellar second half to beat the Cardinals 4-0.

It took a while for Albert Lea to find the back of the net, but senior Kyo Htoo was the first to put the ball past the Fairmont goalie late in the first half.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Tigers until after the halftime break.

After the break, Albert Lea would score three more goals as it shut out Fairmont. Two of the goals were scored by senior Lennon Shimon, one on an assist from senior Spencer Indrelie and the other coming off a steal from the goalie.

The fourth goal of the day came from Indrelie, who dribbled the ball himself into the box and shooting past the Fairmont goalie.

Head coach Zach Luther talked about the team’s performance.

“Overall the effort by the team was great,” Luther said. “They showed up to play today and it was evident.  After settling into the game we controlled possession and worked the ball into dangerous spots.  If we can continue to move the ball like we did in the second half today we’ll be very successful moving forward.”

The Tigers move to 2-3 on the season and will play again Tuesday night at home against Rochester John Marshall.
