A celebration of life for Avis Mickelson will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the home of Dale and Cindy DeRaad, 14085 Summit Lane in Waseca. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Avis Darlene (Molyneux) Mickelson, 92, of Ellendale passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.

She graduated from Ellendale. After marrying Jerrold H. Mickelson on Oct. 18, 1944, they made their home in Clarks Grove, where she was a rural mail carrier for many years. She was also an accomplished seamstress and sewed beautiful wedding dresses and bridesmaid’s gowns for many.

She enjoyed golfing, fishing, dancing and gardening. She and Jerry made many fun-filled trips to northern Minnesota to fish and loved spending winters in Arizona, where they could golf and spend time with family and friends. She was healthy and vibrant into her late 80s, always amazing her daughters with her energy and quick wit.

Avis was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jerry; her brother, Daryl “Pat” Molyneux; and sister, DeLoyce Sawyer.

She is survived by her daughters Sherry (Fritz) Paulsen of Washington and Arizona, Cindy (Dale) DeRaad of Minnesota and Julie (Terry) Burke of Washington; grandchildren Kim (Charlie) Brown of Washington, Angie (Rolf) McBurney of Washington, Michelle DeRaad of Minnesota, Shanda DeRaad of Minnesota and Daniel Brumfield of Washington; great-grandchildren Brittney, Travis, Jayda and Aidan; sister-in-law, Betty, of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Avis was a special wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will truly be missed.

Per her request, there will be no memorial service.
