A Michigan man charged in connection with a prostitution sting conducted in late December by the Albert Lea Police Department was placed on unsupervised probation for one year on Friday in Freeborn County District Court.

Kurt Allen Roderick

Kurt Allen Roderick, 58, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor public prostitution. Roderick received a stayed sentence of 178 days in jail, and was given credit for two days served.

Roderick and Randall Richard Grilz were charged separately after Albert Lea officers set up an undercover sex trafficking operation in December at a hotel in Albert Lea.

Court documents state the same day Grilz was arrested, a decoy met Roderick in the hotel lobby and led him to the hotel room, which was set up for the undercover operation. Roderick reportedly placed $270 in cash in an envelope on the nightstand and undressed to his underwear before being arrested. Officers reportedly found a bottle of lubricant and two condoms during a search of Roderick’s clothing.

Grilz was placed on supervised probation for one year and unsupervised probation for one year in August after he pleaded guilty to two counts of gross misdemeanor prostitution in a public place in May.
