Letter: NFL display was disrespectful

I never thought I would write this letter. After Sunday’s NFL game display of disrespect for our nation’s flag, I am compelled to write this.

I have been a lifelong Vikings fan. As long as I can remember, my Sunday was devoted to the Vikings and the NFL — for 50-plus years.

The NFL and ESPN and the players are all overpaid, spoiled and self-centered. They have no respect for the men and women who have died serving this country to have the freedom to protest, and our flag is a symbol of this!

What President Trump said had nothing to do with race. It had to do with disrespecting our flag and what blood has been shed for it.

I’ve put up with NFL players’ drug abuse, spousal abuse and other crimes, faithfully watching the games every time they are on TV. But I can not put up with them disrespecting our flag — not ever! I have friends that have died serving this country in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Their sacrifice will not be disrespected  by those spoiled know-nothings!

I am encouraging everyone who honors our flag and the patriots who died for it to turn off the NFL forever. No more tickets to games. No more merchandise. No more TV games.

The NFL, I hope, goes bankrupt. They will never get a dollar of mine again. If enough of us do this, we will get their attention and respect for our flag. I’m going to miss the games and the Super Bowl, but enough is enough!

The players are so self-absorbed and self-centered, it’s pathetic!

I will watch college and any other sport as long as their players respect our flag and those who served it.

And if they don’t respect the flag either, I’ll go fishing or something else.

The NFL and the Vikings are dead to me!

We give them our tax dollars for their new state-of-the-art stadium, and this is how they repay us. Disgraceful. They deserve to go bankrupt and out of business. I’m hoping they do!
