5 things to do this weekend

1. Tea with friends and family

Choose Civility’s next event is a tea with friends and family at the Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library & Village from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Participants are encouraged to dress up. Hats and pearls are also encouraged.

2. Open studio show

Artist David Lenz is hosting an open studio show for those interested in pursuing his paintings and reproductions. You can attend between 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Friday or Saturday at 223 Ridge Road.

Lenz paints in his home studio and favors bright colors in his works. He works in both abstract art and realism, and he also teaches classes at the Austin Art Center and The Meraki Studios.

3. Junior historians

Children between ages 7 and 12 are invited to the Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library & Village on Saturday to talk about textiles. The event, which runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m., features activities and examples. RSVP so the museum can prepare activities.

4. Fall book sale

For those who still have some space on their bookshelves, there’s a Friends of the Library member fall book sale today, Friday and Saturday. Children’s and young adult books will be free Saturday morning for Friends of the Library members. Those interested should head to the city garage to browse the books.

5. Organ recital

Grace Lutheran Church is celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation this Sunday with an organ recital and hymn sing. According to the Lutheran church, the Reformation occurred when Martin Luther made demands for reform within the Catholic church. Luther also commissioned musicians to create music to help spread Scripture teachings. The recital will feature many of the Reformation chorales and begins at 2 p.m. Sunday.
