WELLS — Area residents won’t have to drive south of the border to gamble on Nov. 3, when the Wells Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Vegas Night. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. at Wells Community Center, 189 Second St. SE in Wells.

According to WACC Vice President Beth Anderson, those who attend will be able to play games, bid on silent auction items and enjoy a buffet-style meal catered by Lacey’s Catering.

Buffet items will include sandwiches, boneless wings and cheddar bacon baby potatoes, among others. TB3’s will man the bar at the event, as well. One complimentary drink will be provided with each meal ticket purchased.

The live auction will then begin at 8 p.m.

For those who would like to support the chamber, but cannot attend, Anderson said raffle tickets are a great option.

“It’s a great donation and you can win,” she said, noting that cash prizes for the raffle include $1,000 cash.

Proceeds from the event are used to sponsor annual events, such as the back-to-school picnic, Summer in the City and Wells Does it Bright. Funds have also been used on a professional video project that Anderson said has been underway for several months.

The project, which is in its final stages of editing, is meant to showcase area businesses, schools, events and amenities, while offering a glimpse into what life is like in the rural community.

The chamber also plans to launch a new website soon.

“Our goal is to make Wells a great place to live and to work,” Anderson said.

For the chamber to help accomplish that feat, the success of Vegas Night is crucial.

“I think we sometimes get wrapped up in saying it is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it’s our only fundraiser,” Anderson said.

The event is open to all adults, regardless of where they live or work. Tickets may be purchased at the Wells Area Chamber of Commerce office, 28 S. Broadway in Wells, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, from any chamber board member or at the door.

The chamber is still accepting donations for the auction, as well. Items may be dropped off at the chamber office during business hours or dropped off with Anderson at Peoples State Bank in Wells.
