An Albert Lea man was charged Wednesday with methamphetamine possession in Freeborn County District Court, two days after he was charged with first-degree meth sale.

Quinten Duane Amos, 36, is scheduled to make his first appearance on the methamphetamine possession charge Thursday.

Court documents state Amos was charged after a Minnesota state trooper was on duty the afternoon of Oct. 20 when he was informed a vehicle was being followed by South Central Drug Task Force members because they had probable cause to arrest an occupant for meth sales.

After the trooper pulled the car over near the Hartland and Geneva exit, he reportedly saw a digital scale and a plastic baggie that appeared to have powder on it on the vehicle’s front seat. Court documents state a butane torch and multiple cellphones were also visible.

The total weight of the packages and bindles of methamphetamine was 41.5 grams, and nearly $27,150 was seized.

Court documents state after initially blaming the driver of the vehicle for the meth, Amos admitted the meth was his.

Amos is charged with first-degree meth sale after he allegedly sold about 18 grams of meth earlier this month to someone who was undercover Oct.11. His second appearance on the charge is also expected Thursday.

As of Friday afternoon, Amos was in custody.

Methamphetamine possession carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a $1 million fine, with a mandatory minimum three-year sentence.
