Clemence Stender, 1938-2017

Funeral services for Clemence J. Stender of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Don Malinsky will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville.
Clemence died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 79.
Clemence was born Oct. 9, 1938, in Dent, the son of Charles and Matilda (Trick) Stende, and attended country school. He was united in marriage to Betty Hill in 1964 at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. Clemence was employed for over 27 years with Albert Lea Freezer Warehouse and had been a Freeborn County resident most of his life.
In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, storytelling and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. His family and grandkids were always the joy of his life.
Clemence is survived by his wife, Betty, of Albert Lea; and children Cindy Lenze of Albert Lea, James (Judy) Stender of Clarks Grove, Laura (Gary) Crawford of Albert Lea, Carmen Uzlik of Albert Lea, Dustin (Lori) Stender of Albert Lea and Amanda Stender of Albert Lea. There are 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings, Joyce Uhlig of Fergus Falls, Kenneth (Diana) Stender of Fergus Falls and Betty (Jerome) Halderson of Duluth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Robin Lynn Stender; granddaughter, Rachel Lenze; and siblings Lloyd Stender, Charlie Stender, Margaret Laugen, Charlotte Johnson, Gladys Elberling, Lila Rosenow and Carolyn Nord.
