Letter: A thank you from the privileged

A (tongue in cheek) prayer by those who feel privileged this holiday season.
Dear God,
We thank you for the food on this table. Don’t worry about those who don’t have enough food, they didn’t work hard enough. What happened to them is their problem and their own fault.
We thank you for good health within our family. God, it’s not your responsibility that people were hit by drunken drivers, born with health issues and may have huge bills due to their circumstances that they should have somehow controlled.
We thank you for our water so we can drink it and enjoy the fish in it. We know it won’t last long. It’s not up to us to protect the water due to contaminations that 3M did, or the fertilizer runoff from fields, or the damage done by coal mines, and so forth. So, we’ll enjoy it while we are here on earth.
We thank you, God, for Trump freeing us from regulations. They say that regulations are to protect us, but we know that you want us to be free and enjoy life without restrictions. Forget the regulations that force banks, Wall Street, hospitals — except Mayo Clinic, of course — big business, thieves and scammers to be held accountable. We should be able to take care of ourselves, be able to read all that fine print, and know what a sentence really means. So some people get hurt — that’s their problem.
No, we don’t need a single-payer plan God. That would force some people to find a different job and get health care for everyone at an affordable price to be protected if they got an unknown disease. Trump is right. Put 25 million people out of their insurance plan. It’s their own fault for not being responsible.
Those Mexicans, Jews, blacks, Indians and other groups — God knows we’re doing the best we can to make life miserable for them on your behalf.
Thanks, God, we know you’re there. We’ve got it under control. See you in heaven. I know only those who don’t need help will go to heaven.
Sincerely,
One of the 30 percent of Americans who support Trump
