Wagner gets 23, Gophers beat Cal Poly

The Golden Gophers defeated Cal Poly 112-68 Wednesday on Minnesota’s annual field trip day at Williams Arena. Minnesota moves to 10-2 on the season and 6-0 at home.
Kenisha Bell scored 26 points and had eight assists. Carlie Wagner and Destiny Pitts added 23 points each. Taiye Bello posted her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, adding five steals.
Minnesota shot 45.5 percent to Cal Poly’s (4-5) 31.6. The Gophers made a season-high 16 3-point field goals, including seven by Pitts. They shot 26-of-31 at the free throw line. The Mustangs were 26-of-32 at the line. Minnesota scored 27 points of 24 Cal Poly turnovers.
How it happened
Three-pointers from Wagner and Pitts started a 12-0 run to open the game. The Gophers got 11 fast break points early and led 27-11 at the end of the opening period.
Bell scored nine points and tallied four assists in the second 7 quarter alone. Minnesota took a 56-27 halftime lead.
Minnesota tied its highest-scoring quarter of the season with 33 points in the third to expand the lead to 89-46. Pitts was 3-for-5 behind the 3-point arc and had 11 points in the third.
The Gophers led by as much as 49 during the final quarter.
