A.L. girls’ hockey was unbeaten 10 years ago

50 years ago: 1967

•The Albert Lea High School wrestling team defeated Mankato in a close match 23-17. Winners for the Tigers were Jeff Richgels at 95 pounds, Tim Lair at 112 pounds, Dave Weseman at 120 pounds, Ted Noegel at 127 pounds, Jerry Schwemmier at 138 pounds, John Countryman at 175 pounds and Bruce Dahl at heavyweight.

•In an Albert Lea YMCA Basketball League game, First Federal defeated Peterson Golf Oil, 79-77. Gene Lindahl scored 33 points and Bruce Nelson had 16 for the winners. Peterson Golf was led by Gary Johnson with 22 points and Hollis Grorud with 21.

•Tom Bergner with 25 points, Loren Skelton with 19 and Dick Tobey with 12 led New Richland High School basketball team to an 82- 60 victory over Waterville. The Cardinals improved to a 3-4 record.

•The ALHS gymnastic team defeated Osseo, 59-46. Placing first for the Tigers were Bill Moen on the horse and in free exercise, Dave Vandegrift on the trampoline, Dave Medd on the high bar and John Sumner on the rings.

•Jay Gustafson scored 24 points for the ALHS basketball team in their 53-49 loss to Mankato.

25 years ago: 1992

•The ALHS hockey team raised their record to 2-1 with a 2-1 win over Winona. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Cazzi Wacholz and Wade Wangen.

•The ALHS swimming and diving team remained undefeated at 3-0 after defeating Owatonna 98-84. Double winners for the Tigers were Nate Saul in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle, and Nate Olson in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke.

•The Lake Mills High School boys’ basketball team defeated Belmond-Klemme 52-42 and evened their North Iowa Conference record at 2-2. The Bulldogs were led by Dan Rice with 19 points, Thad Evans with 14 and Larry Carlson with 10.

10 years ago: 2007

•The ALHS girls’ hockey team defeated Rochester Century 9-0 for their fourth straight victory. Sophia Jepson and Jenna Christensen each scored two goals for the Tigers.

•The Glenville-Emmons girls’ basketball team, with Jordyn and Kalli VanRyswyk each scoring 14 points, defeated Immanuel Lutheran, 58-33.
