Continuing its path of dominance, the Albert Lea wrestling team traveled to Austin Friday night.
The Packers were no match for the No. 3-ranked Tigers, as they cruised to their 11th dual victory of the season, 65-18.
The action started with freshman Joey Flores getting the pinfall victory over Jacob Tapp in the first period. Eighth-grader Cameron Davis would grab another pinfall win, pinning his opponent in the second period.
A third straight pin was recorded by junior, No. 4-ranked Nic Cantu. The fall put the Tigers up with a commanding 18 point lead.
Albert Lea then took a series of forfeit wins, which put the lead out of reach for Austin. Freshmen Caleb Talamantes and Josiah Hedensten and junior Jake Johnsrud all took forfeit wins, putting Albert Lea up, 36-0.
No. 10-ranked Gavin Ignaszewski kept the winning streak rolling with a technical fall in the fourth minute of the match. He beat Aidan Wilson by a score of 17-2.
Freshman Griffin Studier dropped his match, losing by pinfall in the first period.
The Tigers would get right back on track, however, with a pinfall victory from senior Levi Kermes. His pin came with just one second to spare in the first period.
Seniors Brody Nielsen and Spencer Indrelie both notched a pinfall for the Tigers, each coming in the first period of their respective matches.
The Tigers had an open weight class at 195, giving the forfeit victory to the Packers. However, junior Brady Nielsen would get yet another pinfall win in the first period.
Junior Christian Garcia fell in the final match of the night via a pinfall in the first period.
Out of the 10 matches actually wrestled, the Tigers recorded seven pinfall victories.
The Tigers move to 11-0 on the season in dual meets. Many of the wrestlers will return to the mat on Thursday when they participate in the Rumble on the Red tournament in Fargo, North Dakota.
