Albert Lea swim team falls to Northfield
The Albert Lea boys’ swim and dive team came into its meet Thursday night hoping to put up a good fight as it hosted a tough Northfield team.
The Tigers had some good performances from some of the swimmers, but it wouldn’t be enough to knock off the Gators, as they fell 87-46.
The first race of the night saw the team of senior Alec Wendelboe and sophomores Garrett Everett, Adam Fitzlaff and Thomas Lundell take third place in the 200-yard medley relay. The team finished with a time of 2:08.50.
Freshman William Taylor also took third place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:15.16. In the 200-yard individual medley, Wendelboe and Fitzlaff finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Everett would grab his second third-place finish of the night in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.86, just over two seconds behind the second-place finisher.
Heading into the diving portion of the meet, the Tigers were already in a 49-12 deficit and the lead would only grow as the Tigers don’t have any divers on the roster.
In what would be the best finish on the night for the Tigers, Wendelboe would take second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.61.
Albert Lea took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of Taylor, eighth-grader Jakob Malakowsky, and sophomores Thomas Lundell and Sonny Ortega-Roseli. The group finished with a time of 1:57.93.
The Tigers fall to 0-4 in dual meets this season. They will swim again Thursday when they travel to Rochester to take on the Century Panthers.
