Funeral services for Harriet Irene Wittmer, 87, of Albert Lea will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. Matt Griggs will officiate. Harriet died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.

Harriet Irene Wittmer was born May 24, 1930, in Albert Lea. She was the only child of Harry L. and Ida (Sigurdson) Nelson. She grew up in rural Clarks Grove and attended school in Clarks Grove. Harriet was baptized on July 9, 1930, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea by Rev. H.W. Bendo. She was confirmed on April 2, 1944, by the Rev. J.M. Girtz at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Harriet married Howard M. Schewe on Sept. 29, 1946. The couple later divorced. On Aug. 16, 1982, she married Lawrence E. Galbrath. He passed away on Feb. 9, 1993. Harriet was united in marriage to Melvin W. Wittmer on July 29, 1995. He passed away March 2, 2017.

Harriet was a member of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church and the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing solitaire, dancing, old-time polka music and visiting with her friends at the Eagles Club. She loved spending time with her family.

Harriet is survived by her children Lorraine (Ron Radke) Schewe of Albert Lea, Linda (Lanny) Bergeson of Longmont, Colorado, Lanette (Larry) Olson of Albert Lea, Howard (Julie) Schewe of Albert Lea, Rodney (Vicky) Schewe of Albert Lea and Lyndon (Cindy) Schewe of Owatonna; daughter-in-law, Deb Schewe; grandchildren Lynae (Andy) Strang, Carla (Eric) Knutson, Angela (Travis) Reichl, Christine (Mat) Johnson, Kevin R. (Tina) Schewe, Kristopher (Beth) Schewe, Derek (Amber) Schewe, Joshua (Brandi) Schewe, Andrew Schewe, Heidi (Greg) Eichten and Heather (Michael) Ebeling; step-grandchildren Jennifer (Kelly Griffin) Wittmer and Tradasha Wittmer; several great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; son, Kevin H. Schewe; and grandson, Lonnie Bergeson.
