Duane Carlson, 1935-2018

Duane Stuart Carlson of Plymouth passed away Tuesday, Jan., 2, 2018, at The Waters of Plymouth in Plymouth from Parkinson’s disease. He was 82. 

Duane was born Aug. 12, 1935, in Geneva to Sylvia and Joseph Carlson. He was a 1953 graduate of Ellendale High School and a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Duane began his career at Haskins and Sells and earned his CPA certificate. He co-founded Lee Data and later Net Star. He especially enjoyed being involved with startup companies as a financial and business consultant and was on several boards of directors.

Duane was a World War II buff and enjoyed reading, traveling, good wine, winters at his Arizona home and summers at his lake cabin.

Duane was preceded in death by his brother, Philip Carlson; and sisters Eileen Horvei and Rebecca Carlson. 

He is survived by wife, Mimi, of Plymouth; daughters Karen (Phillip) Hines of St. Michael and Anna Judith (Karl) Koller of Grand Rapids; son, Matthew (Juliane), of Albertville; grandchildren Kasia, Karina and Katherine Koller, and Emma and Nicolas  Carlson; and beloved Yorkie, Charlie. He is also survived by sister, Jane (Gary) Jesse, of Rochester; nieces and nephews Julie Bock of Denver, Peggy Owens of Denver, Tim Horvei of Dexter, Beth Mehus of Rochester and Dan Jesse of New Hope,; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family is grateful to Methodist Hospital Hospice and the staff at The Waters of Plymouth for their kind and loving care of Duane. A private family gathering is planned. Memorials are preferred to Struthers Parkinson’s Center, 6701 Country Club Drive, Golden Valley, MN 55427.
