The Albert Lea wrestling team traveled to Simley High School on Saturday morning to take part in a quad dual tournament against Simley, Ellsworth and Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
The Tigers would go 2-1 in their duals, with their only loss coming from the No. 2-ranked team in AA, Simley.
The Tigers got out to a strong start, beating Ellsworth (Wisconsin) 34-28. The only wrestler to record a pin in the opening dual was senior Brody Neilsen. Other Tigers picking up wins were Joey Flores, Jake Johnsrud, Gavin Ignaszewski, Tyler Harms, Levi Kermes, Zack Glazier and Spencer Indrelie.
It was a much tighter second dual for the Tigers, as they pulled out the victory over Plainview-Elgin-Millville by just one point. Nielsen and Glazier picked up pinfalls for the Tigers as the final score finished, 37-36.
The Tigers faltered in their final dual of the day, getting beat by Simley 44-25. Cameron Davis picked up the only pinfall victory for the Tigers, while Cantu and Johnsrud notched major decisions. Glazier won his match by technical fall.
Three Tigers won all of their matches Saturday: Johnson, Nielsen and Glazier.
The Tigers move to 17-3 in dual action this season. They will be back on the mat Tuesday when they travel to Owatonna to take on the Huskies in a battle for the Big Nine Conference title.
