For the third straight year, the Lake Mills wrestling team won the sectional tournament.
By winning the tournament, the No. 5-ranked Bulldogs qualified for Regional Duals at home tonight.
The team scored a solid 241 points and qualified nine wrestlers for the district tournament next Saturday in Manson.
These nine wrestlers will look to place in the toptwo of their weights and advance to the state tournament.
“The kids did a nice job today and did what they needed to do to get us to regionals,” said coach Alex Brandenburg. “Getting nine to districts is the most Lake Mills has qualified in a very long time.”
Four wrestlers will move on as champions of their weight class: Jack Ramaker (106), Tyler Helgeson (120), Kyle Beery (138) and Gabe Irons (195).
These wrestlers will square off against runners-up from the Emmetsburg sectional on Saturday.
Five Bulldogs finished second and punched a district ticket, Caiden Jones (113), Casey Hanson (132), Drae Love (152), Elijah Wagner (160) and Max Johnson (220). They will each face champs from the other side.
“I am excited for all these wrestlers who get a chance to qualify for the state tournament next weekend and feel bad for the kids who did not get through,” Brandenburg said. “The good thing is, all of our wrestlers can beat state qualifiers if we take care of business at Regionals.”
