A warrant was issued Thursday for an Owatonna man charged with illegally possessing methamphetamine and firearms in November near Shorewood Hills Park after he failed to appear for sentencing in the case.
Christopher Lynn Wright, 29, was scheduled to be sentenced after he pleaded guilty Dec. 1 to possessing ammunition or a firearm with a previous conviction for a crime of violence.
Court documents state Wright was charged after an Albert Lea police officer made contact with Wright and two other people who were in a vehicle Nov. 10 in a driveway 200 feet from Shorewood Hills Park. A baggie of marijuana was reportedly recovered, and the officer was informed by Wright that drugs, guns and money inside the vehicle were his, court documents state.
What was described as “a large amount of cash” was found on Wright, and a black wallet with cash and a black bag with two handguns were also found.
Court documents state a search warrant of the vehicle reportedly netted $1,000 in cash, a black machete with a sheath, several cellphones, marijuana and paraphernalia, along with a small plastic green jewelry bag inside a purse belonging to another occupant of the vehicle with white residue that tested positive for meth and weighed approximately 1.9 grams, including the baggie.
The total amount of marijuana was reportedly 30.6 grams.
Of the firearms seized, one had an unreadable serial number.
Wright reportedly posted a $20,000 non-cash bond Jan. 18.
Wright has three convictions for second-degree burglary, two convictions for first-degree burglary, one conviction for fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and one conviction for possessing a pistol or an assault weapon after being convicted of a violent crime.
