After a fire in a house along Lakeview Boulevard on Jan. 26, two individuals were released from the hospital and are doing well and are in “the processing stage,” a family member said.

“Physically, it’s amazing,” Jena Thompson said. “They’re actually doing really well.”

Thompson is the daughter of David Richards and stepdaughter to Joyce Richards, the couple injured in the fire at 449 Lakeview Boulevard.

Thompson said Joyce Richards was released Jan. 27, while David Richards was released last weekend. She said their main health concerns were smoke inhalation.

An investigation conducted by the Albert Lea Fire Department concluded the fire, which started early in the morning, began in the living room and spread throughout the house. The fire started from improperly discarded smoking materials.

Thompson said her father and stepmother appreciate the support they’ve been shown by the community.

She said the support has been the biggest thing that has helped the couple.

Joyce and David Richards are currently living in Geneva, Thompson said.

“Whether it’s prayers or words or clothes or food, it’s just been anything and everything,” she said. “They have a really good circle of friends and even outpouring (from) the community has been great.”
